I think Phil isn't necessarily trying to be smart. He's trying to make his audience smile or laugh. A lot of his audience is pretty young, and he seems to have accepted that pretty early on and ran with it.

I actually like Phil better than Dan, personally. He's just more my style (and I'm older than him lol). :-)

I think he's actually really interesting, in that he suffered some personal loss when he was younger (according to his Draw My Life video), but he was able to build himself a life and make lots of people smile. I honestly have a lot of respect for someone who can bring joy to other people's lives, even if it's a bit silly. The world can be a dark place. Phil knows that; he just wants to focus on the happy, positive, and childish and weird to make people smile.

At least, that's my take on Phil. I think Dan is a lot more jaded / crass sometimes, but IDK. Maybe not...

Anyway that's just my opinion. ^^
