Yeah, unfortunately it took me a long time to admit that. Silly me, I thought the show was supposed to star Coulson and be about the humans behind the superheroes. I still love the other characters and the universe in general, so I keep watching, but viewers being unhappy about this bait-and-switch (with, as mentioned above by another poster, a stereotypical and tiresome Whedon heroine, no less) is not irrational, in my opinion.

It came out just as the all the shit about the various abuses of the NSA and CIA hit the headlines too. They probably had to perform some mental contortions to keep SHIELD looking even vaguely heroic after that since SHIELD is basically the NSA with CIA powers, I mean they openly rendition people without cause or hope of trial. They show no sign of stopping that either, and their actions have flat out created some of the supervillains they need to stop because of that behavior.
