Yeah. Pearl confirmed as former domestic servant, and also confirmed as having grown a lot since "Friend Ship." (Now we know why she took every task on the chore wheel.)

My friend and I were talking about it today and wondering if Pearl belonged to/was assigned to Rose (I read it as pearls basically being either slaves or servants obligated to serve one particular individual, what with Peridot's line about "you can be MY Pearl...a Peridot with a Pearl! What would they say?") and that would basically make it impossible for them to have a balanced relationship. We even wondered if Rose reciprocated Pearl's feelings to some extent but didn't feel comfortable acting on them because of the severe power imbalance.

On the flipside, Rose may not be exactly the same being Pearl was assigned to. I buy into the theory that the diamonds are fusions, promoting anti-fusion sentiment so nobody will fuse into a being stronger than them. (It would explain how someone named Quartz could be ranked as a diamond, and it would make a lot of thematic sense.)

huh, I had not thought about that angle before! That could change things quite a lot. So you think if she originally was Rose Diamond, she might have been fused with someone(s) rather that just the Rose we've seen?

Lots of potential for interesting backstory there!
