Can someone please explain the appeal of these shows to me? I don't get it at all.

People identify with them, people think the actors and actresses are attractive, people enjoy the storylines... why do you like the shows you like?

For the OC it initially was the "fish out of water" element of Ryan being thrown into a strange and to him totally alien world. Plus, his and Seth's relationship was the cutest. I didn't make it past season 1 due to the show's bad overuse of drama and angst but that was what roped me in in the beginning.

I think I actually liked the OC more in the last season, which was a bit more comic.
