A few years back, I was in a small RPS fandom.

I had a problems with the fans from the very beginning, as for some reason they were very, very sadistic. Like seriously. I've been in fandoms that were about gorn anime that weren't this sadistic. As it was a fandom centered around real people, I started to find this a bit creepy... Specially when they started to use real life events, such as an actor suffering a mental breakdown and a personal tragedy, as fuel for their kink fic. There are lines you shouldn't cross, and that's definitely one. However I kept this opinion to myself.

About a year or so in, there was some huge drama because one of the people involved in the RPS had made some homophobic remarks. People defended her and tried to shut down criticism against her. At this point I pretty much lost all respect for them.

Then the fandom got a troll. This particular troll was very vocal about how much they hated the actor. Pretty basic stuff... Until they started posting the actor's private adress in public forums, announced they were going to try to rape the actor, and encouraged others to do the same. I tried to get someone to do something about it, contact the police or something (it would have been hard for me, since I lived in a different country and couldn't easy contact that country's police????) but people were so fucking cowardly about it that they just sat on their hands and did nothing. By this point I flat out despised them.

So being... somewhat unstable on the mental health department, to say the least, by then I was basically a ticking bomb waiting to explode. When a personal thing happened and completely wrecked what little emotional stability I had, I blew on everyone's faces. All the criticism against them I had been bottling up came out all at once in one incoherent rant. In a matter of hours I alienated everyone. I privated my journal, deleted my twitter, cut all ties with everyone I knew and even abandoned my username (which I had been using for over 10 years at that point!).

And that is the history of the most embarrassing and overdramatic of flounces.
