Well, Bambi was working with a Disney feature length movie budget, where OTGW was working with a Cartoon Network tv show budget. I can't find OTGW's budget online, and while I wuld bet it might have had a higher budget than average, there are different constraints when making things for TV. That's why so much tv animation is outsourced. TV animation generally has smaller teams, smaller budgets, and is thus usually behind movies by a lot. Its just beginning to catch up, so to me? OTGW is a fucking feat.

Okay, but I'm saying why I find the art unappealing.

Suppose I should have used wander over yonder instead: http://a.dilcdn.com/bl/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2013/09/Wander-Over-Yonder.jpg

Notice how the body shapes are exaggerated and the blue yoshi has a stretched body. They are full of life and joy.

Compare again to: http://a.dilcdn.com/bl/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2013/09/Wander-Over-Yonder.jpg

The whole thing looks flat, joyless.

See, while I like Wander of Yonder fine, I enjy OTGW's animation much better.

Yeah, but on the other hand Bambi was hand-drawn, whereas today they have computers to simplify some of the animation elements.

I'm not as harsh as the OP - I did like OTGW, the atmosphere was pretty amazing, but I kind of wish the characters had been prettier. Maybe even if the lines were less black it would have helped... I don't know. I didn't mind the style, at the end of the day, but I did not love the art choices especially for character faces.
