See also: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.

(I'm still sad about Courtney Cox/David Arquette and hope Dax Shepard/Kristen Bell don't the same way.)

How could I forget Tom & Rita?!

(Anonymous) 2015-10-14 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Reply to self: Actually I just looked at Tom's wikipage, and I knew he'd been married once before Rita, but I didn't realize it had been for 9 years, and married Rita within a year of his divorce.

So you know, circa 1990 or so, I'd have probably been giving Tom the side eye, had I been cognizant of celebrity culture and had people been using hashtags back then.

I don't know a lot about either of those relationships, but is there a reason to #relationshipgoals it aside from the fact that they're young and attractive? Most of the time when I see the whole "relationship goals" thing, it's based off how a specific couple interacts with one another, not their fame or good looks.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-14 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
OP: I was bored at work one day and randomly clicking through buzzfeed and found an "old" article that irked me: http://www.buzzfeed.com/elliewoodward/times-blake-lively-and-ryan-reynolds-relationship-goals#.gdN8gWAX7

So basically they talk about each other a lot. Which in and of itself is not irksome ... I guess, I'm just like "oh, that's cute they're young and in love, and #RelationshipGoals seem like it ought to be reserved for that guy who started the pink tutu project [to make his wife smile while she was getting breast cancer treatments] and stuff like that"

I have nothing to back this up with, but I always felt that he married her because he wanted someone who would have babies with him but wouldn't outshine him and she married him to boost her profile.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-15 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I always thought it was strange that there were a lot of rumors that RR & ScarJo broke up because of kids - so it did make me go "Bwah?" when ScarJo had a baby first. (Don't get me wrong, I totally get "I want to have kids, but not with /him/")

Good point on boosting her profile. I always forget why Blake Lively is famous, beyond "I think she was featured a lot on GoFugYourself.com?"

(Anonymous) 2015-10-15 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
That's been the rumor in gossip columns for a while now. Not just that he married her because she's lower profile, but that he's been actively discouraging her from job opportunities that might raise it.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-15 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Personally, I think wanting babies or not wanting babies is a make or break issue, and if you don't agree on those things, it's fair to go your separate ways.

No idea on the higher profile/outshining thing, but I won't cast shade on either side of a couple who breaks up because their baby goals didn't align.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-15 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Who's casting shade? Nowhere did I say that his previous marriage shouldn't have ended if that was the reason why and they shouldn't have sought out people who had similar life dreams or plans. All I'm saying is it always felt more opportunistic or business-y than a "love for the ages relationship goals" thing.

Maybe some people have #relationshipgoals that are lower than yours.

The lives of celebrities, to me, seem like they're such on a different level I can't imagine actually taking them as relationship goals... Not only because they're filthy rich, but their environment lends itself to not really having long lasting relationships, even if there are exceptions.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-15 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
For a time in the 90's, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were my #relationshipgoals, if such a thing had existed back then. Man they were glorious.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-15 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
It certainly looked good from the outside. Now, all I can think is 'poor Nicole'. Must have been a long hard slog.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-15 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
Weirdly from the stuff that came out in the fallout, it seemed like they had a good thing, or at least the sex was good at one point and she was bothered that they weren't having more of it.

I really like that black-and-white dress. /nothing else to add

(Anonymous) 2015-10-15 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't know Blake Lively was female (Blake is traditionally a male name) and I was really confused why Ryan Reynolds was with some guy. That's how much I care about celebrities. Oh well.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-15 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
They also named their daughter "James" to continue the trend.

Although if Ryan Reynolds was now with a guy, it would explain the abrupt divorce and sudden gushing over new spouse.

Blake Lively has the kind of face I really want to punch. I don't even know anything about her, but I just see her face and really want to punch it.

I can't take relationshipgoals seriously anyway. The Sims Twitter likes to use it about weird bugs that result in kissing and hugging sims that are distorted and misaligned.
