Your "racist" things

I just put my earbuds in for REASONS, and the one designated for the right ear has a white cover and the one designated for left has a black one (not for any reason, just because I lost the left one and had to replace it with one from a different pair of headphones the cat chewed through).

But I don't use them that often, and I realized today that the phrase "White is right" has entered my head pretty much every time I go to put them in.

Not racist, but still not something you want to say aloud.

My Dad teases me about being racist every time I talk about preferring "white bread" or "white american cheese". Dunno if that counts.

Uh, milk chocolate is real chocolate. It's white chocolate that isn't actually chocolate.

The art room at my school had boxes for recycling paper that were labeled "white" and "colored." I always felt weird when I saw it, wondering, was anyone ever going to make an uncomfortable joke about it?

I remember getting dirty looks from two black women when I was explaining the plot of Percy Jackson to the person I was traveling with. Was kind of funny that they heard 'halfblood', but not anything else.

There was a Swedish girl in my kindergarten class. She was in ESL with a bunch of kids who had parents from India. So I asked my Mom why she was "in the brown kids club". (We're in Canada, if it matters.)

Talking about my sister's pregnancy and how none of her jackets will fit this winter (baby's due around Christmas), Mom brought up her husband's puffy Michelin Man jacket with the comment, "She could smuggle three Somalians under there!" Which is an updated phrase, because "we're not smuggling Jews anymore." We'd never say it in person to people who don't already know our senses of humour, but it made me laugh.
