I really do recommend the first series; it has beautiful women too (Azula, Mai, Ty Lee, Suki, Yue, several one-shot characters) and is a better story. If you like that, I think Korra is worth watching.

The bottom left character is terrible, though.

What's wrong with Opal?

She's boring and literally exists so Bolin can have a love interest. Everything about her personality is written around her relationship with him and ignores everything else about the story at large. Their relationship had worse writing and contrived drama than the Makorrasami love triangle. When she finally could have done something that made sense and broken up with him for good, she forgave him with no explanation.

I found Asami a lot more boring than Opal. At least Opal develops into a more assertive person.

I admit, I found her pretty bland when she was introduced. But her work in Season 4 made me like her a lot as an independent character outside of her relationship with Bolin. (I especially liked her interactions with her family.)

I think she probably was developed as a Bolin love interest, but I don't think that means she had no story of her own. She definitely had her own motivations, and her own personality. Plus, she was totally adorable.
