They do get sore throats! Years ago I had a neighbor who was a K9 Officer. He went on vacation for three days, kept the dog outside. Mind you this was in the winter time. He had a friend that came by to check on the house and dog at least. But every single moment that dog was outside? He barked. Constantly! Three days!

I remember a day or so after the officer came home and heard the dog outside, the poor thing sounded like he had laryngitis.
