Just signed up, and I'm SO excited! To see if any of my requested fandoms progress past the 1-0 stats *bitter laughter* At least the previous year I requested one Sherlock Holmes canon, and these always get offers. This year, though...

On the flip side, if any of my fandoms do get written, I'll probably die of joy.

I'm super excited too! And I'm doing something similar. Last few times, I've found some additional fandoms in the tag set that were good but not the fandoms of my heart. I always got fic for those add-on fandoms and was disappointed.

So, this year, I'm sticking to my tiny fandoms. I'm almost 100% sure I'm going to go to the pinch hit list, but it seems like people on the PH list are willing to learn a fandom, and I've given them resources to do that. I just hope I don't get someone who phones it in.

You go, nonnie! I actually had a f!s Secret Santa check out a fandom just for me once (which was just... wow), so I imagine in an exchange as big as Yuletide this would be fairly common. I wish you all the best fic in your awesome tiny fandoms <3

I can't sign up for about 6 more hours, but I pollster my letter today and am really excited! (Even though none of the other letters in tbe database seem to have my fandoms yet).

I'm in the same boat. I've picked my fandoms and written my letter but I'm still working on my offers. So far there hasn't been anything on the letter post that's sparked my interest. I'm sure that will change as it's still very early days.

When you sign up, is it always an exchange? Like you must do both - request and offer? I realize that's probably easier, just in case everyone wants to request and not offer, but I'm the reverse - I'd rather just offer.

Yes, it's always an exchange. However, you don't need to sign up to write treats/do pinch hits! And you can find plenty of prompts in the letters post.

Thank you for both answers! I'm going to keep mulling the list over but I may well end up just scattering treats around! I really like that idea.

Same anon as the 'can I just offer' question - what's a dear author letter? I'm confused by the field, since it looks like just a headline space.

It's traditional to write a letter to your author detailing you likes/dislikes and your requests. This is a space where one puts the link to this letter.

Why Yuletide fics're so well written if anyone can participate? Serious question I was pondering some time ago.

Maybe because it's a gift so people try harder to polish things up. And there's a great beta resource. I don't have a regular beta. Last year, I reached out and had 5 betas look at my fic and their suggestions really improved it.

So...let's say I have two AO3 accounts. Could I sign up twice, or is there a way that mods can tell? I know this would make it possible to be the one filling my own stocking, but I'm okay with that, if it happens.

Yeah, you could, plenty of people are doing that. It is officially prohibited, but they usually don't find you out unless you're super obvious about having a stocking.
