I do this. For me fanfic is an escape, I like angst but I need a happy ending for my pairing, so if it ends with them splitting up or one dying etc, I just have no interest. I read regular books all the time so can get my fill of deaths and unhappy endings there, I just don't want it from fanfic. I've been burnt by WIPs a few times, one of my pet hates is when a Mary Sue type of OC comes in and the author has their fave character end up with their OC. Where I've been reading assuming they are just a vehicle for a bit of angst. .
In fact I almost wish there was a way writers could warn for it.
