So...Halloween. I'm just not into it, I haven't been since I was a teenager (awhile ago lol). I like seeing people enjoying the holiday, people in costumes and little kids trick or treating (I give out good candy every year!), and watching scary movies is fun, but I just find it...juvenile, I guess? for lack of a better word? I feel silly/ridiculous in a costume and my sense of secondhand embarrassment goes off the charts. I wish I cared about it but...I don't. Sorry. =\

So don't? And there's no need to feel sorry. No one should be forcing you to participate. I understand a bit of it is hard to avoid, such as seeing the crap in stores. However, there are lots of ways to avoid the holiday.

So... if you really don't like it you should do that. I wish you the best of luck.

I've never liked Halloween. I was an anxious kid who pretended to be sick to get out of trick or treating a couple years because I hated the idea of people feeling free to stare at and comment on what I was wearing, but I couldn't say that because kids are supposed to like trick or treating and I didn't want to seem weird. Some dislike has lingered over the years.

I felt that way, too. My parents finally figured out that I hated to trick or treat when I was around 9 years old. After that, I would hide in my bedroom while they handed out candy to the kids in the neighborhood. They were pretty okay with my own brand of 'weirdness'.

Mine probably would have been okay with it too but I was too awkward to say anything.

I wish I could be a Halloween person but we get no trick-or-treaters here and nobody invites me to parties

Hey, there's nothing wrong with not enjoying it! I like a lot of halloween things, but I'm like...a total wimp, I get genuinely uncomfortable with a lot of the ~spooky~ stuff people have, like decorations with a lot of blood/gore or animatronics that scream a lot. I HATE the screaming it really puts me on edge!

I wish I could still go trick or treating. ....Actually, I probably could.

...I shouldn't, though.

It's just about the only major holiday that doesn't have any religious or patriotic connotations, is geared around fun (including the kind that's safe for children) and there's tons of candy. So yeah, it's one of the two holidays I like. Bonus points for not requiring gift-giving or cards at all.

What's the other kind of holiday?

(Teeeeechnically Halloween does have religious origins and religious connotations to some, but it's secular for like 99.9% of the people who celebrate it, and most people don't even know about its origin at first, so)

I enjoy Halloween. I love the costumes and decorations, and sure, it's juvenile, but it's fun. And I have to be a responsible adult the rest of the year, so I figure a few days of dress-up and make believe is okay.

But hey, if it's not for you, just opt out. There are loads of people who don't take part, and certainly no one judges them for it.

Sorry you feel second-hand embarrassment, though. Can't help you out on that one. :)
