ayrt

It is. It's important. Because I had so many issues with my sexuality growing up because there weren't any non-sexualized for-guys-only lesbian characters. So a character like Undyne, who is in no way sexualized canonly and is a lesbian? It's important to me and I know that kind of shit will help out.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but that sound like the initial anon was making people shipping canon f/f in a representational issue. That's why I commented the way I did.

I'm also of the opinion that since ships are fictional and anyone with half a brain can separate fiction from reality that it's a good place to explore fantasies without actually harming real people. Also making it into a moralistic issue leads to bullshit like bullying underage kids for shipping Eren x Levi or some shit. That's way more horrific to me than a questionable ship that isn't harming any /actual/ people.

They only said that after you/some other anon commented with:

lmao @ you for pretending shipping is some representational issue

Their original comment(s) seemed to indicate that they just thought that it was homophobic to put lesbians in het ships, with no mentions (oblique or otherwise) of representation. That they also think that representation is important doesn't mean that representation is their concern here, nor does it cancel out the other issues they seem to have with that kind of ship.

Adding a little more to this.

I don't mind people examining trends in shipping like how blacks are not popular in ships or how femslash is the least represented pairing type, but making it into a black and white issue where if you don't ship Shawn x Gus or MadoHomu you're an awful bigot reeks of entitlement and seems like a way into bullying people into shipping your ship. That's not how you fight for representation, it's just shipwars with an extra dose of holier-than-thou.

How did you get shipwar from this thread?
