Broadway!Mrs. Lovett actually wasn't that bad. At least, Patti LuPone's version wasn't. Angela Lansbory was..... okay. But I just can't take it seriously because I think of Mrs. Potts whenever I hear her speak. XDD

But yeah, I prefer Helena's Mrs. Lovett over both of them. Sweeney I'm more conflicted on: Michael Cerveris, or Johnny Depp. Hmm...

I guess it's because I saw BatB before ST. But I guess if I were to watch it now I'd think of her...

I'm only familiar with one Broadway cast (and it's the one with Angela Lansbory, oops) but when I compare that to the movie, the movie wins pretty easily.

Glad the secret isn't getting a lot of overly negative comments, though.

Yeah, the original, while good, really can't compare to the revival or the movie. It's probably my least favorite of the three recordings.

It's really stupid when people wank over the movie. As a lover of the show long before the movie was talked about, I can say that there's really nothing to wank over. Burton did a good job with the stage-to-screen transition, and everyone's singing is pretty damn good. It's even more impressive when you conider that none of them(except for the beggar woman) were professionally taught how to sing.

I love Broadway a lot. I usually prefer stage versions to movies though (like with Phantom, The Producers, etc.) but with Sweeney it's the complete opposite. I absolutley cannot stand stage!Mrs. Lovett; she's so obnoxious and her voice is annoying! In the movie, Mrs. Lovett was so much more likable and I think her voice was more pleasant. I prefer Johnny's Sweeney too. Stage!Johanna and Stage!Anthony are Ok though.

Usually I'm torn with stage vs. movie versions. Stage versions usually have better singing quality, but movies just open the world up more than a stage can, you know? It's usually hard to pick. Though I agree that Phantom on stage is much better than the movie((not dissing the movie, of course)).

To me, it wasn't that her voice was annoying. It just really didn't seem to fit. When you compare the original to the revival and the movie, it makes her sound a lot older than she seems to be.

Original!Johanna was a bit weird in my opinion((Appearance-wise, really. She looked like one of those creepy fancy dolls that had the eyes that looked like they FOLLOWED you)), but Anthony was pretty good.
