Takahashi reuses a lot of concepts in a lot of places.

but I completely agree that Inu-Yasha was a very good series before the recent... changes. I stopped reading it awhile ago, and- won't even get started on the anime, but Ranma 1/2 was shoved down my throat first and honestly I learned to love it. Although I was mostly into it for characters that weren't Ranma.

Character archetypes and even relationship ones I don't really hold against her. Tons of mangaka do that, if not most. I'm okay with and even enjoy the comedic love rival role she puts in most of her series for example (Mendou, Mitaka, Kouga, Ryouga- I love all of those characters a lot). I don't mind that all of her couples (outside maybe Mana and Yuta, but even them a bit) bicker a lot because I think the way in which its done and the dynamics of each relationship are different enough (extremely different really) to where I don't get tired of it.

However, it's almost direct plotlines in Ranma 1/2 and really cracked out scenarios that she's duplicating. The characters at times go beyond a wee bit similar to "did you just ripoff yourself?" similar. I do love the series. It's a ton of fun, even if Ranma himself bugs me quite often. However, I hold Urusei Yatsura in very high regard and Ranma sort of feels like as copypasta of it that just isn't as good. And so when people read Ranma and praise it as so original and then don't try out UY it is sort of a let down. UY needs more love.

Re: IY. I sort of think the anime had a big part in the bad reputation IY has always had. People hold anime only events and just anime restructuring of canon storylines against the series as a whole and so a lot of people have never given the manga a try. Or if they do give the manga a try, they only read from where the anime left off. Just because an episode isn't pure filler, doesn't mean that's how it was in the manga. I still read newer chapters, but it's become sort of a chore. I just do it to see how the story will end. I've followed it for too long to back out now. XD I think if she gives us a great ending I'll forgive a lot though. *laugh*

I agree, 100%.

I think you sort of just said everything I tried to explain to my ex when I was still pretty big into those series. Only.. In more words, and- probably a remarkably better way of putting it.

I'd be willing to read over the whole thing if a good ending does come of it. The introduction of Sesshomaru's mother was enough to tempt me... I stopped shortly after it was no longer available in comic book form, since that's how I'd been collecting them.


but yes, side note: Ryouga and Koga are love.
Although, I must admit to being a rabid Mousse fangirl, more than anything. I met his VA at the first con I ever went to and very few things have topped that experience.
