6. Yeah, she was. But when you consider her past, you do feel kind of sorry for her.

Dahlia picked up her behavior from her parents.

Dahlia as a Fey had little to no spiritual power, so she was cast aside by her mother, a woman obsessed with revenge and power. Her father only cared about money and prestige, and when he realized that he would never get that with Morgan, divorced her. It's no wonder Dahlia grew up as twisted as she did. Iris is a living symbol of what Dahlia could have been: a gentle, caring woman, and Dahlia is what Iris could have been. Iris was lucky enough to grow up with Sister Bikini, someone who wanted and loved her. Instead, Dahlia lived with hateful parents who taught her that stepping on people is not only okay, but what you should be doing in life.

In the sense that she was constantly placed into poor environments that never treated her well and with only selfish, cruel people to learn from while lacking any positive reinforcement, yes, that in and of itself is sad for her.

Though, that is only really applicable for her early childhood, as she left all that when she was 14/16 (I forget) and would no longer be in that setting. Plus, Iris was a good model in her life of what a good person should be, though she and Dhalia were not in constant communication. Plus, she deliberately got close to several other good people--Phoenix himself being one, of course--and instead of learning from them, she stepped all over them and deliberately refused kindness and compassion as things to even consider.

What happened to her in the plot of the game during the present, she DID deserve what happened to her in the end--dying and not receiving any sort of vengeance afterwards--because, when it comes down to it, the horrible things she did were her doing and her responsibility. She readily ignored several instances for a change of heart and even in death she was willing to use anything and anyone to get what she wanted.

Even though she was placed into a horrible setting to grow up in (and it certainly was a catalyst, at the very least), I can't help but see her as being inherently evil and am entirely content with what happened to her by the end of the game.

Iris was taking over for her as Phoenix's girlfriend; from what Phoenix says at the end of 3-1, she probably hadn't seen him since after the 3-4 case, and thus didn't experience any of the affection he gave Iris (and here's where I'd add that this steals a great deal of the "irrationally evil" limelight away from Dahlia, but that's a rant for another time and place). Terry was six years older than her when she first met him, and with an age gap like that, who knows just what kind of "kindness" he gave her, or if he even gave it to her at all.

when it comes down to it, the horrible things she did were her doing and her responsibility. She readily ignored several instances for a change of heart and even in death she was willing to use anything and anyone to get what she wanted.

The problem is that with this in mind, the same thing could be said of Godot. He might be a good guy at heart, even if he's awful at showing it, and he might have taken and toyed with the amount of lives that Dahlia did, but that doesn't dismiss what he did, either. He knew it wasn't Phoenix's fault that Mia was killed. He knew prosecuting wouldn't bring her back. He knew about Morgan's letter. He knew he could have hidden it. He knew he could have prevented the channeling from occurring. He knew he could have prevented Maya from being in danger. And he knew he could have, ultimately, prevented Misty from losing her life.

And yet, by the end of the game, he's painted as some sort of a hero for doing it, even when he had less of a reason than Dahlia did for her victims.
