Chip Kidd did the cover on the left. I have no idea who did the cover on the right. Aside from a few notable successes, I think Chip Kidd's work is horrible but I have not seen any criticisms of his work anywhere. He's like a god among book cover designers and while I appreciate that he's trying to do something different from the typical old stuff, "different" does not automatically equal "good."
