Basically, I didn't know there was a 4 either. Damn.

That and I personally didn't like how pirates were set up as these virtuous freedom fighters. Come ON, okay. I get that this romanticized the hell out of pirates, but that just made me roll my eyes.

If they'd tried to make it feel sad, it might have worked. I hadn't even really thought of it from that angle. I don't think it would have gone over well with the fanbase though.

It's a shame, because I think that with the way the story went, these movies might have been a lot more powerful with a high tragedy ending. But you're right, people would have probably flipped their shit.

(I don't even really like sad endings in general. But it might have been a good direction for the series to go in. I probably would have hated it back in high school if they'd pulled a truly tragic ending, but now I think I'd appreciate it.)

Yeah, see, the irony is that I don't like tragic endings myself either! But sometimes I see something that pulls off tragedy in the Greek sense, you know catharsis and everything.
Idk, maybe I'm talking shit and would have hated it anyway XD I just wish they'd have committed. If they're going for a happy ending, go for it. If tragedy, then go for it. If bittersweet, then fucking go for it. This was just kind of meh halfway to nowhere for me.
