I love Tolkien's descriptions. I hate getting little to no idea of where the characters *are*. Saying 'a green field' is about as boring and unimaginative as it gets. I love being told about all the little wildflowers and the insects and the way the land is, and the sky, and the wind, and just.... Let me *live* in the description a little.

This is a beautiful way of putting it.

(Though I'll admit that I can get a little obsessive in my need to visualize--if I can't make a mental map of how a room or a house is laid out, based on the author's description, it actually distresses me.)

Well, i don't have to see every tiny detail? But i hate it when they're vague or they're *confused*, and so the layout makes no sense or is contradictory. That's just infuriating.
