River Phoenix from Stand By Me. He is the brother to Joaquin Phoenix.

Oh god, I just realized there's a generation and a half who have no reason to know who River Phoenix was unless they like watching 20- to 30-year-old movies. I hardly ever wanted to watch movies that old in my teens and twenties.

I'm always slightly disappointed when people mention "old movies" and then it becomes clear that they're talking about ones from the 80s. I just can't get into most 80s movies so I'm disappointed that they're not talking about the black and white movies I start thinking of when I think old movies.

"Stand By Me" is one of my all time favorite movies and has been since I was a kid, OP. The ending makes me sniffle, too.

It's just so sad that he was gone too soon. He was amazing in both "Stand By Me" and "Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade".

I almost forgot that was him in Indiana Jones. He didn't have much screen-time but he was still an excellent Indiana.

I love him in this movie, and in Dogfight. I think Stand By Me is rougher for thinking about Phoenix because the story is kind of about the fragility of youth and the character is mentioned to have died later, and it's hard not to make those associations.

He was really good in that movie.

I also liked him in Little Nikita, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Young Indiana Jones, I Love You to Death (dippy though it was), My Own Private Idaho (such a strange movie), Sneakers (pretty bad movie, but fun to watch), and The Thing Called Love (one of my favorites).

Man, River was stunning. One of the few child actors who got prettier as he got older.
