Supernatural. On the most superficial level I get it - attractive dudes + monster fighting + great soundtrack = appealing, but I also get the impression that most people still watching the show actively hate it, and it's not like SPN is the only canon ever that has attractive dudes, monster-fighting, and good music. If you really hate the show so much, why not drop it for something you enjoy that hits the same spot?

I liked the early seasons horror-movie feel on a tv show, the more accurate take on monster mythology than most similar tv shows, and I found the characters interesting. And I enjoyed the addition of demons and then angels and the apocalypse stuff and the increased angst.

I stopped liking it in season 6, though. The show for me is just seasons 1-5.

I imagine it's partly for the same reason we stay in dead-end relationships: people are watching to see if it ever returns to what they loved before. I don't watch SPN, but that's why I've stuck out some shows.

Plus, you have to see how it all ends.

I can't imagine it will ever return to what it was before, given that most of that creative team are gone.

Once upon a time Supernatural had a heavy comedic focus. ...I stopped watching the show when I realized it was just losing more and more of that over time in favour of fan pandering.

For a few seasons, it was shockingly good. I'm not even kidding, I started watching it for semi-mindless attractive dudes+monsters+tasty soundtrack fun times, but a few seasons in it got really arc-based and I friggin' LOVED IT. The funny moments got funnier, the horror-movie elements got scarier, and when they decided to get dramatic it was actually legitimately well thought out, well written and well played. I WAS SURPRISED TOO MAN, BUT THERE IT IS.

and then that time passed. I don't HATE what it is now, but it is not up to the standards of the glory days. However, I stick it out because I guess I live in hope that it can get shockingly good again

^^^ THIS. And I'm not in the fandom, so this isn't one of those things where I've been brainwashed by the groupthink and have no concept of the actual show anymore because my head is full of fanon and fic and shipper feels and such.
