Text: I don't get what people mean when they complain that they're 'inauthentic' and 'scripted' now.

To me, they seem the happiest and most genuine they've ever been. I love watching them now more than ever before because they seem a lot happier with where they are in life.

If they are more scripted these days, it's because they know more about what their audience likes to see by now and I just see it as them playing to their strengths.

Well, to be fair people complaining about their 'idols' being 'inauthentic' and 'scripted' after they become more mainstream is a pretty common occurrence. (Doesn't necessarily make it true, but it happens.)

They've been doing YouTube vids for years and years, right? (I think since they were teens?) There's no way you don't learn a lot in that time, so of course they would fine-tune their skills and would grow as people and their interests and opinions would change (to some extent). At this point they should know what works for them and what doesn't, what their audience likes and dislikes, and what they want to do with their time as well, so I imagine they consider all of that.

Maybe they (the fans) don't like change.

Yeah, they both started around 2007-2008, I believe, and from what I've seen, their sense of humor has remained the same. They still do ridiculous sketches/stories, their EDITING skills have vastly improved (no more jump cuts, yay!)

Not to mention, they've been doing a radio show for a few years now, so they had to pick up some more skills there.

Wow, I'm a casual viewer and I noticed that. (for serious, I seldom click on their vids anymore, unless the topic interests me.)

Their editing skills have vastly improved, lmao. They do have a silly sense of humor but that's part of why I like them.

I checked them out because of f!s and I really enjoy their gaming videos. Especially the Dan vs. Phil ones; I wish they would do more of those, they're great when they're competing against each other. (I also like when they have to work together, like in their Portal 2 vid where they blindfold Phil. That was SUCH a terrible idea, but hilarious to watch.)

And yea, I've only watched their radio show once but it was pretty entertaining! I'm glad they've had so much success.

I have never watched any of their videos, but their fans seem so obnoxious and annoying that I now dislike them without even knowing them. Ridiculous dislike is ridiculous.

If you mean you dislike the YouTubers themselves, they're actually really sweet and lovely people who deserve a better fanbase.

If you mean you hate the fans, then feel free to continue doing that, most of them are pretty bad. I have yet to speak to a single fan who is actually sensible about them.

I dislike the youtubers. I said it was ridiculous. It's also irrational. Often when I find fans extremely annoying, they put me off the artist/band/actors/whatever altogether. And I definitely dislike the fans as well.

I do the same thing. If something/someone has a super annoying and vocal fanbase, it puts me off.

I've never seen those complaints, but then as much as I love Dan and Phil, I stay far far away from their scary "phandom". The few times I encounter "phans" I sort of snicker and scamper away, because woo boy!

Anyway, I agree with much of what's being said. They've been in the youtube game so long, of course they're improving! They're getting better cameras, better computers to edit and process. They have a radio job, plus occasional stints interviewing celebrities, running panels, creating apps, writing books and all sorts of other stuff. They are no longer adorkable amateurs, they are professional adorkable dorks. So, yeah, they're going to evolve! Anybody who can't deal with that should GTFO!

Nice to see other casual fans here. 😃 I suspect the vocal nutty fans are just kids who'd be going overboard about any interest at that age. Who hasn't been there?
