WIPs

Do you ever read them, or do you avoid them like the plague?

Re: WIPs

(Anonymous) 2015-10-24 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
sure. i am more likely to read a finished work but if the premise of a wip sounds interesting i dont have anything against them.

I don't mind. I'm okay with things not ending.

After getting burned so many times by WIP's, I tend to avoid them unless they sound really good.

Plague. The last WIP I read hasn't updated in 9 years. :(

Avoid them unless I'm really desperate for fic.

Nothings worse than getting into a good story and not being able to finish it.

I read them even though I know they can lead to heartbreak because I'm weak willed and desperate for good fic.

I avoid them like the plague, STDs, and anti-vaxers all put together.

I read them, and then either friend or subscribe so i can be sure to catch all updates. It's all good!

Read them. If a fic is long enough I don't mind the incompleteness. In fact, read and support. I'm that reader saying that they loved the last chapter, especially this thing and that thingy.

OP:

Well, you're the type of reader that's very much appreciated, then! I mainly posed this question because I'm not sure if a thing I'm working on isn't getting very much love because it's terrible, or because it's a WIP. I suspect it's a combination of the two :P

:)

Who knows. I can never predict how much feedback a fic'll get (or won't get, as a case may be).

I read them. Most of the time I'm lucky enough to read ones that wind up getting completed along the way, which helps, obviously. And I like following the story as it's being posted-almost like I'm following along with the characters, in a way, or something.

When I come across a WIP that doesn't get completed/gets abandoned, yeah, it sucks if I was really enjoying it and it abruptly ends at a good and intriguing part. But so long as I liked what I had been reading, I can live with it not being finished. And there's always the off chance it could be updated again and completed someday down the line, too.

I usually avoid. I want to read the whole thing, not wait a few months or years as it is drip fed to me...

Most of the time I go for completed fics, but when I see something with an interesting summary, I look at when it was updated and if it's last update is more than six months ago, I am most likely to skip it.
