I hope you don't use tumblr. Because you get the same hacky, unoriginal shit there as well.

With added whining about how JKR is RUINING THEIR CHILDHOOD BY CONTINUING TO CARE ABOUT HER CREATIONS!

Not really, no.

But I would also argue that perhaps the different structures of Reddit and Tumblr are an advantage in this instance - because I suspect if I did use tumblr, it would be a lot easier to prune the set of people that I interact with so as to stay away from that dumb shit. Whereas, when you have a community that's founded on it, that's a lot harder.

But again. I don't really use tumblr.

That is why reddit is better. Instead of allowing you to sit in your little echochamber of safety, it requires you to see differing opinions.

It's not about differing opinions. I expose myself to many differing opinions. It's about boring opinions I've heard in the exact same way three fucking thousand times before. And stupid unoriginal puns. And people still passing around recommendations for the same handful of things like they're fresh currency. And the same lack of imagination or desire to learn anything new.

...that sounds a lot like Tumblr though

I mean I think they're both like that, but I don't understand why you're shitting on Reddit for that particular reason and then acting like Tumblr is better.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, like I said, I don't use Tumblr, so I'm not exactly defending it.

But I do think - even if the userbases are substantially the same - the structure of Tumblr seems like it would tend to make it easier to deal only with the interesting people, whereas the structure of Reddit seems like it would more force you to deal with a lot of dull motherfuckers.

I'm just saying that I think both sites are pretty much gonna be saturated with the kind of people you don't seem to want to interact with.

DA

How many times do we have the same wanks on FS, too? If we're talking about hacky unoriginal shit...

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I am not getting across precisely the thing that I mean here, I don't think, but it's just like... imagine the most mediocre, boring, banal nerd possible. Not terrible, but just boring. And just imagine all of the stupid opinions passing for insights and the stupid referential injokes passing for humor despite the fact that it's the millionth time they've been repeated and the same boring-ass positioning of one's life around specific relationships to cultural setpieces and the same being satisfied with having the same conversations over and over. And that is, to me, my assumption about the median reddit user.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
How is that different from the median FS user, though?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
We're much cooler, and more sexy.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You might even call us and OP special. Like snowflakes.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
So...like F!S users. And Tumblr users. And most comm users.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Marginally less unoriginal and dull.
