Re: Inspired by #4: What shows (movies, etc.) do you love but have to avoid its fandom?

Harry Potter. Every time I watch the movies I want to read some fanfic and such. But there is just too much, I don't have any clear pairings I ship, I really just want some gen fic, and I have no idea where to start.

Comics (DC and Marvel). I love the movies (animated and live action) but have no clue how to get into the comics.

Same. The closet thing I did was find some free comics of a recent Lobo run online.

The only comic series I've been able to get into was The Walking Dead. And that was because it was basically one story with no AU stuff or offshoots or anything.

HP fandom used to have a much better balance - I mean, there were entire websites dedicated to certain pairings, but those sites also had a lot of genfic and a lot of fics that were a happy medium between romance and gen. One of my biggest frustrations is that current lack of a happy medium (in any fandom), though.

Now it seems to mostly be Harry/Draco and Snarry.

Don't make me weep!

I will admit there are small troves here and there for specific pairings, kaijinscendre. I'm usually on lj, looking for my current pairing, and I occasionally am gifted with a few good fics. Not much for the gen though, sorry :[

Finding Gen is so hard in that fandom. And it sucks that there are no fic finder comms that are not for specific pairings or fics.

Yeah, I just wish I could find some Draco gen fic. THAT IS ALL I WANT!

Drive-by rec: Graduation by xenokattz
Summary: Post-DH. Draco Malfoy's coming of age did not happen when he turned 18. It did not involve the traditional party. It did not even happen in Britain. It's amazing how much one grows when one is put to work in a Bulgarian farm.

It was written as a prequel to the author's series about nextgen characters, but it stands alone on its own and I love it to pieces.

Some HP genfic recs off the top of my head:

Introduction to the Invisible Book of Invisibility by snorkackcatcher

White Lies and Other Misdemeanors by AzarDarkstar

The Best Revenge by Arsinoe de Blassenville

Sine Qua Non by AzarDarkstar (WIP)

Forging the Sword by Myst Shadow (WIP)

As for browsing through genfic, you can look at omniocular or hp_holidaygen. They're not active communities anymore, though. (LOL it's LJ, why the hell do I need to say that?)

Harry Potter:

Here, read this one, I command you:

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10677106/1/Seventh-Horcrux

(It is an overwhelmingly big fandom. What I do is trawl through an author's favorite lists, find a story that seems promising, try it, if it seems allrightish, then check THAT author's favorite lists, rinse-and-repeat. Make it an adventure!)
