Re: Intelligent Design vs Young Earth Creationism vs Evolution (my attempt at explanation)

So... "Intelligent Design" as you use it can simply mean "God with infinite foreknowledge set off the Big Bang and the laws of physics etc and the rest naturally followed as He/She intended"?

Because, if that's one definition, then I'm down with that, since "WHY" is not really a scientific question.

If "Intelligent Design" is being used as "God actively intervenes in the physical world on a regular basis, creating dinosaur bones and burying them for the lulz to trick unbelievers" then yeah, I'm not really down with that, with respect to the statement "Science is compatible with Intelligent Design".

It gets used both ways. From what I've seen, it got popular because people decided it sounded more legitimate than creationism and that it would get them further in getting creationism into schools if they used that term instead. But there are lots of people who use it that first way. Things get confused very quickly when people don't make it clear which way they're using it at the beginning of the conversation.

Right, thanks! I've only heard the second definition before. It's all a bit second hand here since creationism is not taught in 98% of religious schools in Australia.

That sounds nice. Even the very conservative church people I used to know who would horrify many people here weren't trying to get creationism in schools. They were content showing videos at church showing off the twisted version of science involved.

I still find a lot of creationist arguments fascinating. Most people think it's just "God did it" and that's it, but there's some actual attempts to use scientific evidence that I find interesting even though it's wrong.

Ah yes, the social currency/authority of science exploited for where it doesn't belong.

Let's talk more about the "vibrational patterns" of sugar molecules for homeopathic medicine!
