Re: Inspired by #4: What shows (movies, etc.) do you love but have to avoid its fandom?

to be in the fandom you have to be an expert on French history and political theory, know everything about the differences in all of the English translations and have the correct opinions on which ones are good and which ones aren't, and on top of all that be able to write meta on a whim about any and all of it

haha, the movie side of the fandom had (and probably has, idk) the complete opposite problem. when I was hanging around it a while back, it was filled with dumb modern day AUs (I'm assuming because a lot of people didn't want to even try to be historical accurate and figured it was just easier to plop the characters into modern day. A lot of the fics I saw weren't even set in France. COME ON, PEOPLE.The whole "set in France" thing is pretty crucial for this particular work), nonsensical headcanons, and waaaaay too much fluff. I wish there was more of a middle ground between anal historians and meaningless nonsense

sa

to clarify, I meant "anal" as in "anal retentive" rather than "people who closely study the history of anal sex"
