This isn't exactly what you're saying, but this reminds me of the Christians who think the existence of beauty proves God exists. They think atheists must have never seen true beauty, and they tell each other stories in which atheists discover beauty and become Christians. To me, it seems unthinkably bleak that someone could see the universe as so cold and empty that they need to introduce an omnipoptent god to explain how beauty could possibly exist in it.

I always thought that was weird and ultimately kind of narcissistic, myself, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder, isn't it?

I always thought that argument was silly and condescending. When I look at a rainbow, I don't miss its beauty even though I don't believe it is a sign of God's promise. I know about the light spectrum, etc. and frankly, that makes it more amazing to me, not less.
