Notes:

Last day to submit for next week!

Happy Valentines Day to everyone! ♥♥♥

Also, just a note: Dude, bitmaps are HUGE. Please don't submit secrets in bitmap format. I redid one today to a jpeg, because I was feeling nice, but we will make a special section down in the not posted secrets in the future for bitmaps. We're trying to make the page as easy to load for everyone as we can. Thanks!

6. There are still sites that allow anonymous reviews. But you have to admit that there is a higher occurrence of outright flames with anonymous reviews as opposed to signed ones, since people feel more bold and less of a need to be civil when anonymous. I'm not really understanding the fear of leaving constructive criticism. If it's constructive, it's helpful and not condescending or mean-spirited, so a rational person (emphasis on rational) wouldn't be bothered by it. If you suspect someone is not rational, just don't leave concrit for them. But then some people's idea of constructive criticism isn't constructive at all.
20. Unfortunately if you're writing adult fic, you've got to know that at least a few people are sitting at the console with just one hand on the keyboard.
31. You can't honestly tell me that you thought Elricest would be made canon, can you?
38. Ha ha!
43. You've been sucked into the cult of F!S. There's no getting out now.

31. Oh, no. I just had the hope that we for once could get to see a childhood friend who didn't have to be the hero's convenient love interest.

I guess I misunderstood when I saw the background image. Sorry!

It would be nice, but it's so rare for mangaka to break with that kind of thing. When I started to read the manga, I just looked at Ed/Winry as inevitable. One time, maybe we'll both be pleasantly surprised.

6. Some sites still do, but many are starting to require you join to comment. If you already have an account, you're just opening the door for trouble and grudge reporting if you piss off the wrong person with a constructive comment.

Many people just can't accept anything beyond "Good job! Right Moar!!!" You try telling them that they had some spelling errors or a contradiction and they fly off the handle. You never know who will and who won't.

Sure Anonymous can be mean, but if you're a delicate snowdrop whose feelings wither away when people look at you funny, you're never going to survive the internet anyway. Might as well pack up, go home, and play with dolls.

[identity profile] flowerofsin.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Um, not everyone who doesn't like anonymous flames is a 'delicate snowdrop' or whatever you want to call it who should pack up and go home (It's funny you say that to writers yet are wary of leaving a signed review behind) It's that kind of behavior that has caused many sites to give users the option of disallowing anonymous comments. And if people don't want to allow them, that's fine. It doesn't make them anything other than a person who wants someone to own their words to them with some kind of name.

You don't know who will react badly to a review, but if you're going to be so fearful of leaving a signed review behind, just don't bother at all. What can a fic writer or two actually do to you that is so horrible? Insult you? So? I just don't get it.

(Anonymous) 2008-02-15 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
The secret is about anonymous. I remain anonymous so you don't follow me back to my den and poke me with sticks because you don't like my opinion, which obviously you don't because you've gotten your panties in a knot. If you want a name, I can run off and make an account lickety split so you can pin it to me. Will that make you feel better?

The secret is about just that. People don't make as many honest comments these days because then they have it held against them for being mean. You can just say "Hey, you spelled such and such wrong" and suddenly you have a wave of batshit morons descending upon you for being a grammar nazi. Call Anonymous cowardly if you want, but I like to think of it as Self Preservation.

Unlike some of the apathetic losers of the world, if I see a promising work, I like to leave constructive comments! I'd like to come back and view/read works from people who have continually taken feedback into account and improved. It makes you feel good to watch an artist evolve because they were open to improvement instead of drawing the same noseless characters day after day after day and thinking they've hit the top of the artistic ladder. Give me a break. But like I said, you aren't allowed to speak or else you're toast.

You are taking this way too personally. There is very little that can happen on the internet that 'gets my panties in a knot,' and I personally am not interested in following you anywhere. But you're welcome to make that username if you want to. ;)

I could care less whether a review or concrit to me is signed or otherwise, since I'm one of those rational people I spoke of who actually likes concrit. My response was to your comment about a person who doesn't want an anonymous flame being a fragile little thing, to which I disagreed. I merely pointed out how you were being hypocritical when you yourself are afraid of online flames for some reason. I think it's clear who has her panties in a knot over something.

It's good that you leave constructive comments on fanworks. So do I. If you think what I said to you is rendering you 'toast,' you are the one who is the 'special snowdrop.' There is no vitriol in anything that I've said to you, so please drop the defensiveness.

LOL seriously. I could understand if the fic is not porn, or if the reviewer went into graphic detail (which would definitely be TMI), but I kinda thought the point of porn was to get off.

Yeah, I mean I've had people say things like that to me before, but they didn't go into graphic detail or anything so I didn't find it creepy.

There was one time that a random person gave me a graphic description of what they wanted me to write in a fic that was a bit creepy, though. I don't know. I guess I just expect that a few people are going to be enthusiastic about adult fic when they read it.

Same here. If anything I found it kind of amusing. As long as it's not all stalker-like, it's kind of funny to me.

Not that I'm saying that it would but... why not?
There have been plenty of stories that incest was canon, and fanservice aside there were hints towards it in the anime.

I've seen several oocasions where things that are hinted at in one media (anime vs. manga) becomes outright canon in the other.

There are no hints in the FMA manga or anime toward incest. Ed & Al are close because they are brothers who have been through a lot together, and they've expressed their brotherly love for each other at various points, but there is no indication that this is felt sexually by either of them in the canon. I have nothing against Elricest, but like most -cest pairings in fandom, it is a fan creation.

I've seen anime & manga where incest is canon as well, but Arakawa didn't seem to me to be the type to have even a yaoi pairing become explicit canon, let alone incest.
