Chickification? Oh, word?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-26 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a trope.

I imagine that as turning into a badly drawn comic about how playing D&D will make you a Satanist

It's gotten to the point where I can't tell anymore if whitewashing means "erasing sensitive issues" or just "makin people white".

I know what you mean, but the former is the predominant use of the word (outside of fandom, up to 15 minutes ago, anyway).

i'm trying to find a description of her from the books saying that she isn't white but i can't, nor have i read the books either (yet), so... source on the white-washing pls?

i do agree with some of the rest of what you said though, the transformation from how triss was in 1 versus her cutesy bun hairstyle and attitude in 2 and 3 is a bit... jarring.

They mean whitewashing in the other sense -- of "whitewashing" away someone's negative qualities, in order to make them appear to be better people. Yeah, I know, I did a double-take too, but it's the actual original use of the term, and also, I'm pretty sure we'd have heard by now if the character wasn't white in the books, given the popularity of the games. Which... um, adaptations? I don't know how faithful the games have kept to the books in general, though.

tbh I haven't read the books, or really played the games...but I was surprised after a once-over of them to find Triss so well liked, since I got the idea that she used the lead characters amnesia as a chance to jump him. I'd have thought that'd a) turn players off and b) make her a fascinating character. But given the fanart from a pervy gaze featuring Triss, all people care about is that she is hot.
