ALSO WHY DOES SHE LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME AS ELSA, ANNA, AND RAPUNZEL?

Because that picture is an edit and not the actual character model, which came out super recently.

Because Disney animators think all women do or at least should look the same (see interviews of animators complaining how difficult it was to make Anna and Elsa distinguishable).

To be fair, I think that pic is an old photoshop of what Moana might hypothetically look like. So it's probably just a straight-up edit of Elsa or whatever. Her actual design is here, ymmv on whether she still looks too much like the other girls.

Hah, you linked to what I was about to link to. And yeah, I don't think she looks that similar, personally. I'm also pleased they got an actual Hawaiian girl to voice her.

Looking at that, I don't think she does either. And while she's still skinny, she has a bit more to her than the usual Disney stick figure, so that makes me happy.

The girl they got is sooo cute, she seems like a sweetheart and I'm really happy for her!

2D drawing - Super cute
3D model - Smug unlikable face, she looks so annoying. Also ugly.

disney's 3D women all look similar because they're all lacking a jaw. why disney?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-27 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Why do they all have the same smug face, they're supposed to look likeable not like jocks.

That actually looks really cool!

I just went from blandly disinterested to fairly interested in seeing this movie.

Me too. I like 3D animation there are plenty of really awesome things you can do with with it, I just really love and miss 2D Disney films. Like Sarilla mentioned in her comment below though, I don't Disney will make another for a long time after Princess and the Frog did so poorly.

they never switched

Moana was always going to be 3D
