Any interesting links you've found and want to post?

(I have something but I don't think it merits its own top thread)

Coming off some of the religion discussion from yesterday: I thought this was an interesting position on atheism:

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/oct/24/atheism-does-not-make-me-superior-to-believers-its-a-leap-of-faith-too?CMP=share_btn_tw

I also agree with it pretty much entirely in terms of my own personal view of the matter.

Yeah, that's a really good article, I agree too.

I get really annoyed with/scared by atheists who think that science means that a) they are evidently right, and b) others holding beliefs from theirs ACTIVELY offends them, like they should not exist.

You don't need religion to wield a big fucking stick, see the SU bullying thread below. Perhaps our tendency to use whatever belief systems we have to an intolerant extreme to wield big fucking sticks is the main problem.

I get scared by religious people who kill nonbelievers. Don't see the reverse of that quite as much.

I know, just the Oregon shooter.

Religion can be a terrible, terrible tool, I know, I'm an atheist, you don't need to tell me that. And it's enough just to declare a believer sufficiently unbelieving in order to justify punishing them.

Someone's never heard of Stalin.

This, FFS.

You need a mandate to rule, to maintain power over others, and religion can give it to you, or something else can. I mean, in medieval Europe, the Papacy was locked in a constant power struggle with kings, because both were interested in ruling, basically.

Yes, those people are much more wrong than nearly any atheists are.

That doesn't make all atheists right.
