I don't really think it's hypeocritcal.
Mostly because LIS doesn't fall into the same stereotypes that shoujo-ai anime tends to have.
-For starters, it's not just set in high school. There's tons of time travel and an over-arching mystery to solve.
-Chloe and Max aren't sexualized for the male viewer.
-Chloe and Max openly declare their love for each other and actually kiss. There's none of that, "teehee we like each other but it's only a phase!! well get over it and find husbands after high school!" bullcrap thats usually found in stereotypical badly written shoujo-ai or yuri stories.

Like them making out just for fanservice .

It's like how guys think two girls kissing is hot but still want to have a shot with one of them instead of viewing them as two people in a relationship with each other.
