I thought you could be a lesbian who's not a lesbian

I always thought this attitude was kind of silly. If you're a human and the alien race is all feminine complete overtly feminine bodies, feminine facial features and feminine voices I'm pretty damn sure that counts. It ain't perfect, but that's pretty damn queer.

Didn't Bioware go on record to actually say that they don't consider Liara to be female? Either way, I agree, it's bullshit.

Maybe she's not technically? But it's so obvious. I think the issue there might have been plausible deniability.

Honestly a lot changed in gaming in general between ME1 and ME3--they go from saying the one gay option isn't really female to including multiple gay romances in ME3. We forget how huge that is.

Yeah, I was referencing the reaction Bioware gave about the only female option for femshep at the time. I remember everything about the dev team of mass effect series just giving off this straight dudebro vibe. At least we can laugh about it now, I guess...

I do find it awkward that we treat consensual lesbian relationships the way Japan treats pedophilia. "She's not a kid; she's a thousand-year-old dragon!"

Same-gender kisses on screen where one of them is really-a-man/other or under-mind-control or has-a-nonsexual-agenda, or different-gender kisses on screen where one of them is really-a-woman/other, are classic queerbaity tactics. Throwing a bone for the queers, getting your "edgy" entertainment in for the straights, and not overly horrifying the sense of propriety and heteronormativity for straights either.
