This is pretty much exactly what Ian Jones-Quartey (one of the main creators of SU) told the fanbase to do, after fans pressured him to react to this incident.

Somehow, a certain segment of the fanbase has twisted that into meaning that Ian supports child pornography and is in favor of taking away representation.

...yeah, some vocal people in the fandom are far enough gone to accuse the creators of Steven Universe of wanting to reduce diversity/representation featured in media.
I... uh... if I had to imagine issues people might have with the creators of Steven Universe, that... probably would not have been a common one to pop up.
