Steam

There's a game I'd like to get for PC and it's only available on Steam. I've never used Steam and I have a general dislike of downloading/buying stuff from the internet (bad experiences). Also, I can't download straight to the computer I want to use, so I'd like to download to an external hard drive. I've had some games not work when I do that. And this game is being released in parts over the coming months/years. You can buy the whole game for cheap right now and then download the new chapters when they come out, and I'm not sure how well that will work with the external hard drive.

Basically, any advice? What's your experience been? How does Steam work? Is there anything I should know? Do I need a Paypal account?

I dunno how well the whole downloading to an external hard drive will work out for you with Steam. Because you have to have an account and then the game becomes a part of your library when you buy it, and then to install it, it downloads to your computer.

You don't need a Paypal account, a credit/debit card will suffice.

But I'm not in favor of Steam anyway. They've screwed me over a couple of times with games not working and them not being able to tell me how to fix them so I'm kind of done with Steam.

You can choose where to download files though. Set up external drive as a download location and you're fine.

Though I've had nothing but good experiences with Steam. It's changed my mind completely on downloading games and now 99% of stuff I get is through them.

You don't need PayPal. Hell some stores sell steam credit code things.

All my steam games are installed to an SSD. Make sure to set steam up to install to your chosen directory. I've had no problems with running games like this. Updates and patches will continue fine as your steam will remember which computer has what stored where. You can buy now and install later or a different computer.

Can you install more than once? So, if you get a new computer or want a game on more than one hard drive, can you do that?

You are not limited on your installs :)
