Fun fantasy computer games?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-28 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone want to recommend a fun fantasy genre computer game? Preferably nothing too heavy like Skyrim or Dragon Age because I don't have much free time, just want a temporary fun escape without long play through obligations. I like dragons, magic, anything medieval. RPGs or simulation games are fine! I don't have a PC controller though so I think action games might be a little tough.

Planescape: Torment

(this isn't a real recommendation, I'm just fucking with Dethtoll)

DragonFable is fun, as long as you're not allergic to puns and cheesy humour in general.

Fantasy's tricky because so many of the great games are long and full of sidequests. The Reconstruction (by Deltree) is a reasonable length and has adjustable difficulty, and I think Valkyria Chronicles is an OK length as well. I'd like to recommend Overlord, but the keyboard controls are a little awkward. (I was still able to beat it without a controller, if that counts for anything.)

This... may not be to your tastes, but I love the hell out of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. It's definitely fantasy, but it's first and foremost a roguelike, so caveat emptor. That being said, it consciously attempts to be avoid the pitfalls of the genre (there's no whoops-you-didn't-pick-that-up-on-level-one-so-now-you're-fucked traps here), and it can be played online and in very short bursts. The developer's website is at crawl.develz.org , and there are a number of helpful forums and sites available if you want some advice. Let me know if you're interested and you can try spectating the character I'm currently failing at!
