[The most generic game screenshot of The Iron Bull from Dragon Age: Inquisition I could find on a grey background. The pink text reads:]

It's really starting to get on my nerves when people fucking forget or blatantly ignore canon, have their own fanon they treat as canon, and then go on long rants about how everyone is a secret asshole for being so "misguided".

Example? I just saw a long rant about how everyone is "ignoring" how The Iron Bull is most likely polyamorous and there is "nowhere in canon" he states that's he's doing a "only you so long as this lasts thing". Which... lets me know you've never romanced that character or watched videos of it. Good job.

(I mean, yes, he totally could be. That’s easy to see. However, when he’s with the Inquisitor he states he’s only with you. Twice. UGH.)

Really, I normally wouldn't care but it was the straw that broke the camel's back. I don't like being called shit for not interpreting a character the "right way".

DLC spoilers

Never thought I'd see an Iron Bull secret! (It saddens me you aren't more popular, Bull.)

Anyway, is this a widespread thing? I always say this, but I haven't noticed it.

If it's just the one person, I'd ignore it as much as possible. I've seen lone people (in other fandoms) go off on pretty bizarre and irritating rants and there's not really anything you can do unless you want to risk wank. It isn't worth it, imo.

But IA in that I think Bull could find himself in a situation where he was open to a poly relationship, but we also never see him in anything other than a monogamous one (either with The Inquisitor or with Dorian) and he seems to be happy with it. If you romance him, he does make it clear that he's seeing only you, and will make a comment in party banter with Cassandra ('Turning her down', heh) saying he's in a committed relationship.

I haven't had the chance to play it yet, but I know in Trespasser it's once again reinforced that Bull is seeing only you, and he even agrees to talk about marriage after the events of the DLC (though marriage is not something Bull feels he 'needs' as he's already committed, he's open to it if it will make the Inquisitor happy. I know open marriages are a thing, but that isn't what was suggested).

So if someone is insisting you're wrong for not seeing him as polygamous, idk what their problem is. They are allowed that head-canon, but you're also allowed to believe in what you've seen (and to believe 'that's it').

You're not interpreting him wrong at all. In fact, it seems they went out of their way to make sure people knew Bull was only theirs. A lot of people were worried about that before release.

That said, I do wish they wrote one LI character at least ambiguously enough so we could decide if they were monogamous or not. The closest we got was Izzy and only if you romanced her as a guy.

Sluts are only good when your tame them into faithfulness and purity with the power of your dick/vagina.

it's so dumb

"i headcanon this character as trans!"
"cool!"
"UR TRANSPHOBIC FOR NOT PORTRAYING THEM AS TRANS IN FANWORKS"
"wat"

I had to break off with someone I thought was a friend for exactly that reason. The only character interpretations she respected were her own, and everybody else in the fandom was a dumbass for not following her script.

I'm only here because it's an Iron Bull secret, and I am painfully, hopelessly in love with him, a fictional character, and I honestly just do not know how to handle it

like

i am seriously in love with a fucking fictional. character. what the fuck is wrong with me.

I dream about the Iron Bull. In all of the dreams where I 'hook up' with a character, his dreams are the only ones where he never disappears halfway through, in fact, he always seeks me out whenever I get separated by my weird dreamweaving. It's easy for me to read things in his voice, especially if I write myself a peptalk.

I read so many Bull/Lavellan fics because it's easy for me to impose my own Inquisitor, whom I styled and designed after myself even though they are male and I'm female

it's unhealthy. and I'm genuinely concerned about my obsession with the character and I think it's partially because I had a teenage crush on Freddie Prinze Jr. I was enamoured with James Vega in ME3 but The Iron Bull has gone above and beyond my expectations. Trespasser wrecked me in all the best ways, even the bad choice which I had to watch on youtube because I could never sacrifice the Chargers

tl;dr- i'm pathetically in love with the iron bull and it's so pathetic
