bittersweet friendships

[personal profile] dreemyweird 2015-10-29 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm just going to be dull and predictable because I need something satisfying and tropey.

Any media where two characters have an epic bittersweet friendship - not without difficulties, but ultimately healing and healthy for both of them. The more they cling onto each other, the better. Bonus points if the relationship is quasi-familial. H/c is VERY welcome.

Examples of tropey stuff I already like: Murder Rooms, Bulgakov's Heart of a Dog, Sherlock Holmes in almost any incarnation, Hot Fuzz, Holy Flying Circus, The King's Speech, Stevenson's Kidnapped.

Maybe White Collar?

Also, Hawaii Five-0, possibly The Professionals, Leverage (in many different permutations), and Due South.

Thank you! <3 Apparently some eps of The Professionals are on YT - I'll give it a go and see. And I'll keep the other things in mind, too.

You kind of need to watch the original series of Starsky and Hutch. It's basically exactly what you want.

If you don't mind books, DK Broster's The Flight of the Heron. Warning for a heart-wrenching ending but the story itself is very satisfying.1745 Scotland, h/c in spades.

She also wrote "The Wounded Name" (Napoleonic France) and "Mr Rowl" (Napoleonic prisoner in England). Both deliver on the h/c, and WN is very good on clinginess.
