Re: Does Gender make a difference in RP?

I'm a man who RPs and I don't think my motivation is any different from women's when they play. Most of the time I'm concerned with story progression, though sometimes I just want to play some pointless sex, just like the women players I know. Actually there's probably more women I know who are up to RP smut than men. If you think we're getting off RPing or something... I mean, probably? They're sex scenes, most people I know both men and women who are into porny scenes aren't doing it for their health you know. Sometimes sex scenes are about character interation but let's be honest, a lot of the times they're not. A guy RPing sex isn't doing anything different from many of the women who RP sex.

It isn't the getting off to it idea exactly. I mean, I wouldn't do it if it wasn't a turn on. It is more that the character in question is really possessive and kind of creepy, and now that I know the RPer is male I'm wondering how much of that is RP and how much of it might be actually them.

And I'm wondering if they are getting off on the idea of me rather than the RP, if that makes sense? Like, are they imagining turning on this random woman and that's what's getting them off?

I guess mostly I'm just having a harder time separating them from the character now that I know they are a man.

DA,
When a woman RPs a stuck-up snooty cheerleader type, do you wonder how much of that is actually them?

That's kind of fucked up on your part, sister. What if the RPer was female? Would you assume the same thing, or would you just go "oh, she must be a really good RPer?"

You need to put this shit away. You're sounding like a certain F!S celebrity troll. I'm not saying you're Radfem!Anon, but your double standard is definitely a bit upsetting.

Like they're basically roleplaying a sex scene with you as opposed to the character? I guess that's always possible, maybe because I RP mostly with my friends but I'd never think of it that way myself. If I wanted to have cyber sex there are easier ways to do it... It's possible they're kind of using the male character as a cooler, sexier replacement for themselves to interact with women in a way they normally can't? But I still think it's firmly within a fantasy setting. In my experience, if a guy is looking to roleplay sex with a female player, he'll be VERY upfront and insistent that the people contacting him are REALLY GIRLS!11 long before you start RPing.

I'm not actually RPing as any particular character. They do this thing where they make a post saying to send in inappropriate or porny texts to see how their muse responds.

The character, at least their version, is really sexual, so the responses tend to be porny and possessive and a touch on the creepy side. The character will act that way no matter who they are responding to. So now that I know they are male, I'm wondering if they are doing the send them porny texts thing just to get girls to send them porny texts so they the poster can personally get off on the idea of the girl sending the texts.

Does he ask that you send a photo with the text, because otherwise for all he knows you're a dude pretending to be a girl.

Yeah these are my thoughts exactly. The type of guy who wants to get off on the idea of a woman sending him sexy texts is going to make sure that the person on the other side of the screen is actually a woman.

nah, that's understandable. There's a different power dynamic "context" between men and women than between women and women, even if we really would like to pretend otherwise.

You're used to women being sexualized/objectified in our society, so it makes sense that you would have more qualms about a man rper than a woman rper.
