Re: Does Gender make a difference in RP?

Not necessarily, but it can sometimes.

I used to rp a lot without divulging my gender on certain lj comms, there have also been times where I've stated outright that I'm a dude. I'm a good writer, so a lot of the time people have really wanted to rp with me one on one. I've also been part of a lot of rp "inner circles" (so to speak) where a lot of sexy rp would happen in private journals.

What I've noticed is that times where I would let on that I'm a guy lead to a lot more ...abrupt requests for sexy rp, rather than letting character development and natural processes lead into any kind of IC relationships. To be honest, I find those circumstances very tiring and bland because it's almost always the same requests over and over for exactly the same type of scenario.

I realize there are also a ton of creeps out there who want an rp relationship to progress to real life shit and can be pushy and gross about it, but I'm in it for the writing practice, so if anything I've been on the receiving end of those advances. In my experience this is as likely to happen with male rpers as it is with female ones.

tl;dr unless the person makes it weird, it's probably not going to make a difference. If it does get weird, then just stop communicating with them.
