Re: How do you like your porn?

I go for fanfic almost exclusively, and it only works for me if it's about a pairing I ship. I find video porn completely and utterly unappealing. Ditto image porn. I do enjoy some explicit fanart, but almost never to the point where I get physically turned on by it.

Also, I tend not to masturbate while I'm reading a fic. I'll read a fic and enjoy it as a reading experience, and then later, before I go to sleep, I'll call up something arousing from a fic I've read and take the time to get into it and work up the parts that I really get off to until I've got something that works for me in my head.

I like fanfic WAY more than original erotica (they're not even in the same playing field for me).

The characters have to be consenting and of-age in the smut I read. Otherwise I'm noping the fuck out of there in a hurry.

The thing that determines how hot smut is, for me, is how badly the characters want it. They have to want it very, very badly. One of the hottest things, for me, is the whole "mating urges" kink. The reason for this is that I'm not attracted to other people (at all, ever) and I also find it difficult to get more than semi-aroused when I fantasize. There's only been a handful of days in my entire life where I've felt well and truly horny. So the mating urges trope acts as an arousing escape from the very limited scope of my own sexuality. That said, sometimes my noncon squick conflicts with my mating urges kink, and in those cases the squick usually wins out.
