Let me preface this by saving that I think having gender neutral language for people who want/need it would be great and helpful. My question/issue is this: I understand that not all women have vaginas and not all men have penises, but can we please come up with something better than "penis-haver" and "vagina-owner"? If we're trying to distance ourselves from being define by genitalia, this seems like the wrong way to go. It also seems incredibly awkward to use in everyday situations.

Ex. "What did the person look like?"
"They were are a vagina-owner with brown hair."

Are there alternatives? I've yet to see any. At least, I haven't seen alternatives on tumblr anywhere yet.

Y chromosome owner

and

not a Y chromosome owner

but that's not really a helpful distinction since having or not having a y chromosome is not synonymous with having a penis or a vagina

But there are people with Y chromosomes who look like people who don't have Y chromosomes, so that's a really poor way to classify.

If you're trying to visually identify a person I see nothing wrong with saying "they are a woman" or "they are a man" if they are very clearly presenting as one or the other.

Seriously?

Whatever happened to "person"? It's a perfectly acceptable term to use, whether or not you care about whatever is (or isn't) between their legs.
