Windows 10

Windows is pushing me to upgrade from Windows 7. Who here has upgraded to Windows 10, how have you liked it?

I upgraded my mother's laptop (I can't do mine because most of my school programs aren't compatible) - she likes it well enough. The little I used of it did't seem all that different, but I don't use Windows for my casual computing these days. I like the GUI at least.

I upgraded to Windows 10 from the unfortunate Windows 8, which I hated (fuck you eliminating my start menu). It's not worse. But I've also experienced loads more blue screens of death since I did upgrade. Doesn't seem like a coincidence.

I'm really happy with it and have experienced no problems so far.

You can turn off the nag thing permanently if you want. Go into Windows update, view update history, then uninstall "Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3035583)." Then reboot, go back into Windows Update, check for updates, find KB3035583 again, and right-click -> hide update.

This has been a very helpful comment. (It also reminded me to install other updates too.)

I think Windows 7 is superior to 10. There's no need to upgrade unless you have the disaster that is Windows 8

Wow! Apparently they just stopped nagging me, after months! I wonder if that means upgrading won't be free of charge anymore.

Yeah, I'm used to Windows 7, I'm keeping it.

If you're running Windows 8, I'd definitely update to 10 - far superior.

But if you're running Windows 7, I'm not sure. Windows 7 is a really stable OS, and will have all the drivers. I might hold off for a while before upgrading to 10, just to let any of the bugs get worked out and wait for the newer drivers to be released.

This.

Windows 7 is a mature, stable operating system. Windows 10 is barely out of beta. It has a lot of potential and I think it can get there eventually, but if you go into it thinking you'll have as good an experience as Windows 7 you're going to be disappointed.

And I'm one of the people who didn't hate 8 (8.1, anyway - the original version was just plain terrible) but the UI in 10 is definitely superior. I upgraded both of my computers from 8.1 and I'm really happy with it.

I had Windows 8, so it's definitely been an improvement. Everything just runs more smoothly. But if 7 is working for you, you probably don't need to upgrade.

Like everyone else who were unfortunate enough to have Windows 8, Windows 10 is a huuuuuge improvement. My only problem is that ASUS doesn't have a Windows 10 compatible driver for my laptop's audio jack yet so if I have to use my headphones, I'd have to manually set the sound settings. But other than that, it runs just fine.

I have 8 but am worried that if I upgrade something is going to go wrong. Thus far I haven't had any major problems (almost all the issues I have had could probably be traced back to gaming) but I've only had this computer for about a year now and don't use it for much other than internet, storage and gaming. I think I might keep Windows 8... I feel like I'm just starting to get used to it, I don't want to bother.

I got no complaints and I was sure I'd hate it.

I like Windows 10 but be careful if you are upgrading a laptop. The experience can really vary depending on how good the original manufacturers have been at keeping the drivers up to date. In my experience Toshiba has been the worst with it (though they seem to be getting better).

Wow, it's like you were there for my horrible experience with this! I have a Toshiba laptop, and after I went through the somewhat lengthy process of updating to Windows 10, I discovered that my sound no longer worked. Like, at all, for anything. I went online and searched for fixes and I swear to god I tried about a dozen fixes, I tried every fix I could find, and NOTHING worked to get my sound back. I eventually just reverted to Windows 7 and breathed a sigh of relief.
