Well, if you don't believe it, you really won't achieve it, will you?

Look, there are three possibilities: It's easy, it's difficult, or it's impossible.

If it's easy, then do it.
If it's difficult, then try to do it anyway, and accept that it's going to be hard and you might fail.
If it's impossible, then why is it impossible?
- Is democracy a sham? Then Bernie probably won't win either; so what does it matter?
- Is democracy genuine, but the USA really genuinely wants middle-class families to go bankrupt from medical bills, university graduates to be crippled with debt, and poor people to go without dental care? Then Bernie probably won't win either; so what does it matter?
- Are you personally not good enough? Literal rapists of teenagers actually run for office and win. Are you worse than them?

I don't see a way that Bernie wins without other social-democratic reformers running for Congress. It doesn't have to be you. It could be a progressive Democrat in your state who needs volunteers.

The problem is the case where it's difficult and in trying to do it but failing (by winning the primary but not the general) we open the door for a Republican to win the Presidency

which Literally Cannot Be Allowed To Happen

The GOP probably aren't going to win the White House just because Bernie Sanders is on the ballot, though. Bernie has a basically decent & honest demeanor, and he proposes policies that are popular.

By comparison, Clinton is practically running on name recognition and her gender.

clinton has decades of political experience and connections in DC, which, right or wrong, means she can enact an agenda of her choosing. to say she's running on name recognition alone is deeply understating the case.

again, I say this not as a hillary supporter. she is not a lightweight. she has actually accomplished more in the political arena than Bernie, and can position herself to do more.

the problem is that these things may not be what we all want.

Respectfully I just don't agree. I don't find any of the reasons why Bernie might be strong all that compelling - it seems they mostly boil down to (1) head-to-head polling, (2) issue polling, and (3) the person making the argument really likes Bernie personally. And I think (1) and (2) are extremely unreliable, and (3) is very hard to generalize from. And at the end of the day, Bernie is very far to the left compared to previous successful presidential candidates.

But I don't think this is something that can really be resolved without actually nominating him, so it's not a very productive argument.

Then it literally cannot be allowed for the Senate and House to remain in GOP control. Who is running that you know of? Can you work with them?

Democracy requires citizen participation.

I personally live in a district that's represented by progressive Democrats on every level (state legislature on up) so there's not much I can personally do towards that end. But I agree that this sort of thing is extremely important and unquestionably worthwhile and should be done - again, regardless of whether or not Bernie is running.
