Never watched Battlestar Galactica, but I also adore her in Major Crimes. One of the perks of the show is the shifts in characters. She's awesome!

People can be very different in different roles. Sign of good acting, I guess.

I have the exact opposite. To me there's something about her voice and demeanor that I find soothing and trustworthy (maybe even motherly, I dunno) so yeah...

I don't think I even finished season 2, but I remember liking her. Mainly because it was interesting to see a powerful female character have such a soft way of speaking, and have to evolve to being strong when she started out the series dying and in a position not even close to president.

I don't watch either show (Though I have seen bits of Major Crimes) but I think the actress is gorgeous. I like her voice, too.

But, you know... Acting. It isn't that weird that you would feel differently about her in different roles.

You're not the first one by any means, anon. I made a secret that complained about the way Tom Zarek gets shat on in BSG and Roslin gets a free pass on everything.

what

but Tom Zarek is like, a murdering, criminal psychopath

(Anonymous) 2015-11-05 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Murdering, criminal psychopath to you, freedom fighter to others.

err, umm, uhh, okay

I find Roslin's entire demeanor to be extremely off-putting. Her schoolmarmish holier-than-thou lecturing attitude just grated on me.

Maybe you just feel one role suits her face and voice better than the other?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-05 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
I adore her in both, and as a person, but I don't think there's anything weird about loving an actor in one role and only that role - I've got a few actors I feel that way about. It's like one role just somehow clicks with you where others don't, or actively make you dislike them.

Mary McDonnell is fabulous in everything, though ;)

Roslin isn't a perfect character. I find it weird that people support 100% of her decisions. A lot of them were fucked up and directly went against everything that should be what her character was originally about. I think it's well written and I tend to go through phases when I watch the show where I hate her or love her, but appreciate her as a character all the same, but it isn't like she didn't do things that would be breaking points for some people.
