Wow, your example was fun but like everyone made serious, depressing contributions.

Mine is that if I stick iceberg lettuce in my burger, I get my vegetables for the day. I heard recently that even "good" salads give you basically no nutrients and should never count as your vegetable.

So now green salads don't count because crunchy water and potatoes and other root vegetables don't count because starchy carbs. Which leaves, I dunno, broccoli and other collards? Maybe peas or do legumes not count for some reason? Seriously, I eat salads because they taste good, just like I eat obvious junk food for the same reason. Everyone's going to die, and they might as well die eating what they like.

dude, "everyone's going to die" is not a good life philosophy. There are like, loads of vegetables to choose from.

Invaluable. Even tells you how to cook em.

Whatever, they said they're eating their veggies already. This obsession with healthy diets is getting pathological. Keep adding rules and exceptions, at some point you have to start ignoring and start trusting your gut instinct.

??

Nutrition isn't like some conspiracy. Diet fads may come and go, but whether or not something gives you proper nutrition is a science. it's not like it's made up, arbitrary culinary fashion. And sometimes people's "gut instinct" is wrong - like the old food pyramid in which we thought we needed basically all grains and carbs.

AYRT--I know both of these things, and there aren't a lot of veggies I won't eat--not a fan of brussels sprouts because there's so many bad ways to cook them and cabbage is less fiddly for the same flavor, eggplant apparently doesn't agree with me, and unless I puree them the texture of mushrooms grosses me out. I'm celebrating the return of cold weather (it's not 90° any more hallelujah) by making a huge mixed veggie soup (carrots, celery, leeks, onions, garlic, bell peppers, tomatoes, green beans, lima beans, zucchini, and broccoli.) I just find the periodic demonizing of various innocuous foods kind of funny.

I thought that was because of the use of dressing?

Saying they should never count is fucking stupid. If you have a salad with a bunch of high-nutrient veggies in it and use a vinegar as dressing, damn straight, it's good for you.
