Because the truth is someone out there COULD be attracted to you.

If you sincerely believe nobody could be attracted to you, you are going to let someone lousy take advantage of you because you think you have no better options.
1. That's not true, for real. Look around you. Even incredibly ugly people end up not single.
2. The person who wants to take advantage of you doesn't deserve you. No, not even you. And even you deserve more than them.

There are things I genuinely like about myself. I'm often shaky about them, b/c I'm that kind of person, but there are many qualities I think I have that I really do like. It's just hard to see anyone else being attracted to those qualities, let alone attracted enough to overcome my weight, appearance, introversion, lack of sexual experience, etc. Especially when there's a million other people out there, I'm sure, who have all the good qualities that I have but with hot bodies & fewer dysfunctions, who they could date instead. Why would anyone choose to date me. It's a ridiculous idea.

I'm not worried about anyone taking advantage of me, though, since there's no reason anyone would particularly want to.

See, no. This is what I used to think. "Nobody could want to take advantage of me!" And then they did. Because they go after people with bad self esteem on purpose.

This is going to sound fucked up, and the fact that it's relevant is absolutely some shit that's down to the fucked-up nature of patriarchy, gender relations, etc. But at the end of the day, I'm a male, and I'm poor. I can't see why anyone would particularly want to take advantage of me. certainly, no one has ever tried.

But, again, thank you for the concern. And I apologize if this renders my other concerns moot in your eyes.

Nah brah, Chard is right. I'm also an ugly poor dude with no self-esteem and I ended up in an absolutely horrifically abusive relationship. There's always some asshole out there who's just looking for someone they can hurt.

Some people get their rocks off by fucking with other people's heads. the chick I ended up with spent years thinking up new inventive ways to make me feel worthless and monstrous. I wouldn't leave her, though, because I finally was in a relationship and I was convinced no one else would ever be interested.
