It's more that in the day to day interactions of most of our lives, very few of the blunders we are apt to make are that important. Nobody is going to give a fuck fifteen minutes from now that you said something wrong or did something that made you look like a dork. And the idea that it's terrible that you momentarily looked like a dork comes from pride, from the feeling that only looking cool and being right at all times can suit your idea of yourself.
